Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announces that Niagara County law enforcement agencies will participate in a special effort to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.
Law enforcement officers across New York State will take to the roads in a combined effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. The statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign efforts start on Thursday, April 20th and will end on Friday, April 21st. The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, as well as law enforcement agencies across Niagara County, will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of drug impaired driving-related injuries and death.
The STOP-DWI 4-20 High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The Statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign also targets Halloween, Thanksgiving, The Holiday Season, The Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th weekend and Labor Day. In addition to April 20th, there will be a concentrated effort on July 10th. During these times, the focus of our community engagement will be drug impaired driving.
While STOP-DWI efforts across New York have led to significant reductions in the numbers of alcohol and drug related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. Highly visible and highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving.
