Known as “The Protector” of his loving family, David L. Woods Jr. passed away at the Buffalo Veterans Administration Hospital at 73. David was a veteran of the US Army and also worked for over 30 years as a Postal Police Officer, till his job was abolished here locally at the Buffalo Area Post Office. 

David cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and cooking his famous BBQ-Ribs every 4th of July to celebrate his mother’s birthday.

He will also be missed by the Buffalo Bills, as he was the best Armchair Quarterbacks the Bills ever had.

David was the beloved husband of Mary E. (nee Schmitt) Woods. He was the devoted father of David (Justin Kruse) Woods III, Daniel (Amy Vogel) Woods, Eric (Terri) Woods, Jessica (Jermaine) Jones and their mother Mildred Woods, and Toni (Ashlee) Santiago, Jamie (Dean) Anderson and Joseph Santiago.

A loving grandfather of Nina Woods, Daniel Woods Jr., Justin Woods, Alicia Woods, Aiden Woods, Yazminn Green, Yezmeane Green, Mihiya Green, Dionisia Jones, Jermaine Jones Jr., Ny’Evah Jones, Chance Anderson, Riley Anderson, and Dylan Anderson and proud great-grandfather of Mateo and Yazaira.

The son of the late Barbara M. (nee Brunalt) Woods and the late David L. Woods Sr. and was also survived by sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will be present for visitation on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William Street. (near Harlem.)

Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew’s Church (Crocker & Reiman Sts.) on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 10 AM.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, in Cheektowaga, New York.
