From earthly labor to heavenly rest, Julius Gregg Adams passed away peacefully in his 65th year of life, at his family home in Williamsville, New York on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Julius was born in Buffalo, New York on October 4, 1957 to the union of Peter Adams and the late Evelyn Adams. He was one of 8 children.

Julius was an active member of First Shiloh Baptist Church for several years, having joined under the pastorate of the late Rev. Elijah J. Echols Jr. 

Julius was educated in the Buffalo Public School System, graduating from Lafayette High School at the age of 16. He received a B.A. degree in Psychology, a M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Educational Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He worked for the Buffalo Public Schools as a school psychologist and for the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Centers’ Mobile Mental Health Team as a Psychologist before joining the State University of New York College at Fredonia Faculty in 1988. In 1993, Dr. Adams received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. His commitment to quality and enhancing student knowledge, and his leadership ability led to his appointment as Director of the School of Education in 1997. He served in that capacity until 2004. He also served as an Associate Dean for Urban Education at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York and also as an Associate Dean for Urban Education at the University of Buffalo Graduate School of Education. Dr. Adams presented nationally and internationally in the areas of school-based mental health programs and teacher knowledge and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS. Dr. Adams retired as the Executive Director of the University of Buffalo, Educational Opportunity Center on January 1, 2023.

Julius was an avid reader; loved gospel music, was a huge collector of Marvel comic books and loved everything Disney. He was a loving and caring person who loved spending time with family.

Julius is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Adams and brother, Paul Adams.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 31 years, Carmon Grigsby-Adams; daughter, Lisa Adams; grandson, Emanuel Pace Jr. (EJ); cherished father: Peter Adams; siblings: John (Mildred), Benjamin (Patricia), Denise, Edna, Cynthia(Darnell), and Timothy (Tiffany); sister-in-law, Sheritta Grigsby; nieces and nephews: Michael, Evelyn, Lisa, Adam, Nicholas, Torey, Gavin, Luke, Kennedy, Paige; several godchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
