Congressman Brian Higgins is inviting high school students living in the 26th Congressional District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece from each Congressional district is sent to Washington, D.C. and displayed in the hall to the Capitol Building.

“This is a great opportunity to feature the artistic talent of young Western New Yorkers here at home and in Washington,” said Higgins. “We encourage local students to share their work.”

Artwork should be delivered to Congressman Higgins’ office at 726 Exchange Street, Suite 601 in Buffalo by April 18.  Western New York-themed artwork is encouraged but all original artwork that meets the guidelines is welcome.

Submissions will be on public display in the lobby of the Larkin at Exchange Building from April 24 through May 8 and posted virtually through the Congressman’s social media accounts. Families will be invited to a reception on May 8, where the winners will be announced.

Local leaders in the Western New York art community will select the winning piece to be sent to the Nation’s Capital. The winning student and a guest will also receive complimentary Southwest Airlines tickets to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 20 in Washington, D.C. with other winners from around the country. Additional prizes will be awarded to the first and second runner-up as well as the top vote earner online.

Students living in the Cities of Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Tonawanda as well as the Towns of Amherst, Cambria, Cheektowaga, Grand Island, Lewiston, Lockport, Niagara, Pendleton, Porter, Tonawanda, West Seneca, Wheatfield & Wilson are invited to participate through Congressman Higgins’ office.
