Marshall scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to erase a 2-0 deficit and defeat Canisius, 3-2, Friday afternoon in collegiate baseball action from the Kennedy Center YMCA Field in Huntington, W. Va.

Both starting pitchers earned no decision as junior Matt Duffy fanned 11 batters in 6.0 innings for the Golden Griffins (2-7) while Thundering Herd starter Patrick Copen struck out seven in 6.0 frames.

Marshall reliever Bryce Blevin picked up his third win of the campaign, tossing two shutout innings before handing the ball off to Ryan Capuano, who sat down the Griffs in order for the save.

Redshirt sophomore Justin Guiliano took the loss for Canisius, after allowing all three Marshall runs.

Graduate Kyle Kush helped Canisius jump out to a 1-0 advantage in the second when he doubled home sophomore Jackson Strong, who beat out an infield single then swiped second before backstop Ty Wevers worked a two-out walk.

The Griffs doubled their lead in the fifth when graduate Dylan Vincent blasted his second career home run – a solo shot to right field.

The Thundering Herd went on to shut down the Canisius bats, yielding just one base hit over the final 4.2 innings.
While keeping the Griffs’ bats at bay, Marshall’s came alive in the eighth.

Amari Bartee slugged a one-out solo home run before Daniel Carinci, Luke Edwards and Kyle Schaefer hit three straight doubles off Guiliano to take the 3-2 lead that paced them to the victory.
