NEW ORLEANS, LA – All-Region honorees for the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and three members of the Buffalo State track and field teams were honored. Nat Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) was selected as an All-Region member in three events, Shevaughn Allen (Buffalo, NY/JFK) was selected twice, and Jarrod Polk (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) also earned All-Region recognition.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region’s top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.

Sawyer adds to the long list of honors that she’s earned in her freshman campaign, with All-Region selections in the 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash. Sawyer’s time of 8.80 seconds on the way to second place in the 60-meter hurdles at the SUNYAC Championships is the third-best time in the region this season. Her time of 25.13 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the same meet was also good enough for third place in the region, while a time of 56.80 seconds at the Nazareth Tune-Up in the 400-meter dash placed her fourth in the region. Sawyer also holds top 20 times in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash, and will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Birmingham, AL.

Allen’s two All-Region marks came in the triple jump and long jump. At the SUNYAC Championships, Allen launched himself a championship meet-record 15.48 meters to claim the SUNYAC Championship in the event. The mark also stands as the top mark in the region, and in the nation, this season. At the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational at the end of January, he set a season-best of 7.04 meters in the long jump, tied for the fifth-place jump in the region this season. Allen will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in the triple jump.

Polk earned All-Region honors with a personal-best jump that held up from late in the 2022 year. His jump of 7.04 meters in the long jump at the Nazareth Alumni Invite on December 9 is tied for the fifth-best jump in the region this season.
