The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to announce Jonathan Parrish as their new Vice President, Artistic & Orchestra Operations, effective March 1.
Parrish has had a lifelong passion for the arts and spent many years as a professional horn player, with a Master of Music from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. He has performed with orchestras in the D.C. area including the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and a move to become a member of the Honolulu Symphony (and its successor organization, the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra) led him into orchestra management.
Parrish served as General Manager of Chamber Music Hawaii for 10 years while performing with the Spring Wind Quintet, as Executive Director of the Hawaii Symphony for six years, and for the past three seasons, as Executive Director at the Maryland Symphony. Through his leadership, programs were developed at each organization to continually bring music to broader audiences.
BPO President and Executive Director Daniel Hart remarks: “We are very much looking forward to Jonathan joining the BPO team. Due to JoAnn Falletta’s longtime relationship with the Honolulu and Hawaii Symphonies, Jonathan and JoAnn are well-known to each other, and we are excited to pair them again in Buffalo! His expertise in audience building and progressive artistic planning is vital for the orchestra now and will be for years to come.”
Parrish comments: “For many years I have admired the BPO for its artistic quality and creativity under the leadership of Music Director JoAnn Falletta, so it’s an honor to now be invited to join one of the best teams in the orchestra business.
