Graduate midfielder and team captain Skylar McArthur was tabbed a Preseason All-MAAC selection, the league office announced Wednesday.

A Peterborough, Ontario native, McArthur had a career year for the Golden Griffins last season, posting 50 goals, 51 draw controls and 52 points en route to earning All-MAAC First Team honors for the first time in her career. McArthur also had the opportunity to represent her home nation last summer, donning the Red and White of Team Canada at a World Lacrosse Sixes friendly event in Oshawa, Ontario, from Oct. 7-9, 2022. McArthur and Team Canada would defeat the Haudenosaunee Nation in the final to win the event.

As a team, the Canisius was picked fifth in the preseason poll with 39 points. Defending champions Fairfield (78 points, seven first-place votes) were predicted to repeat, followed by conference newcomer Mount St. Mary’s and Siena, who were tied for second (68 points, one first-place vote each). Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara (51) was tabbed fourth, rounding out the top-five.

The Griffs open their 25th season of play Feb. 12 at Detroit Mercy with opening draw set for 11 a.m. The first home game for women’s lacrosse is scheduled for March 14 against Robert Morris at 3 p.m.
