NIAGARA UNIVERSITY – The Niagara men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams closed out the home portion of the 2022-23 season with a pair of dominating wins over Waterloo Saturday afternoon at the Oxy Aquatic Center.
 
Men’s Recap
• The Niagara men picked up a 162-82 win over the Warriors.
•  Sophomore Nathan Dragon won the 1000 free event with a pool record time of 9:46.11 to get the men’s afternoon started.
• Riley Dafoe won a pair of events, the 200 free (1:41.85), and the 200 back (2:05.96). The grad students time in the 200 free was a pool record, one of five set by the men’s team on the afternoon.
• Junior Gio Germano also won a pair of events, the 100 back with a time of 51.14 and the 100 fly, with a time of 49.46, which is now the new Oxy Aquatic Center benchmark.
• In his final career home meet, Kevin Vu won the 50 free with a time of 20.92. Teammate Levi Morgan recorded the same time to earn a share of first place.
• Sean Finley won the 100 breast with a time of 57.85 and later picked up his second win of the afternoon in the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.96, a pool record time.
• Jake Ruffolo, the reigning MAAC Swimmer of the Week notched a win and a pool record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.16.
• Reid Tichy won the 500 free with a time of 4:44.98.
• On the boards, Patrick Scott earned the points for NU on the 1-meter with a score of 208.25, while John Furner scored a 281.10 on the 3-meter to complete the Purple Eagle sweep of the boards.
 
Women’s Recap
• The women took their dual meet with the Warriors 158-86.
• Paige South won a pair of events, the 200 free and 100 free, with times of 1:54.98 and 52.47, respectively.
• Long time Purple Eagle, Zoe Gavin won the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.53, followed by a win the 100 fly with a time of 56.81.
• Megan Smith set the pool record in the 50 free with a time of 24.83, followed by a program- and pool-best time of 2:05.35 in the 200 back.
• Kayla Kreger won the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.21 and teammate Maddi Hudson took first in the 100 back with a time of 59.47.
• Freshman Chloe Vlaeminck took first place in the 200 breast with a mark of 2:23.86.
• On the boards, Sydney Sarkis posted a score of 225.45 on the 1-meter, and senior Morgan MacMahon took the 3-meter event with a score of 212.03.
