BUFFALO – The Buffalo State women’s basketball team dropped a SUNYAC contest to Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Arena by a final score of 71-52.

  • Tashawni Cornfield (Gowanda, NY/Putnam Science Academy) led Buffalo State with 19 points, including shooting 9-for-15 from the free throw line.
  • Brianna Smith (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield) chipped in nine points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Potsdam opened up a 12-point lead in the first quarter, but a 3-pointer by Josie Fleming (Clarence, NY/Clarence) cut the lead to nine at the end of the frame.
  • The Bengals opened up the second quarter on a 15-2 run to take a 29-25 lead with 4:25 to play in the half.
  • The Bears drained a pair of 3-pointers to regain the lead at 35-33 at halftime.
  • Potsdam opened up the second half on a 15-0 run to take a 50-33 lead, and held a 14-point edge after three quarters.
  • The Potsdam defense held Buffalo State to just 19 points in the second half to take control of the game., outscoring the Bengals 36-19.

FOR THE FOES

  • Jakia Howard led all scorers with 21 points, while Dyamon Hunter scored 20 points.
