PITTSBURGH, PA – For the first time in 51 days, the Niagara men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams took to the pool, taking on Duquesne and Youngstown State. The women’s team went head-to-head with the host Duquesne and Youngstown State, defeating the Penguins (152-143), but falling to the Dukes (237-58). The men’s team fell in their dual meet with YSU, 164-133.
 
Women’s Recap
• The women’s 400 medley relay of Paige SouthAmanda SilvaZoe Gavin, and Moana Houde-Camirand finished third to kick off the afternoon for the Purple Eagles with a third-place finish, clocking in at 4:01.33.
• Houde-Camirand completed the 200 free in 1:59.60 to finish fifth. The long-time Purple Eagle also picked up a fifth place finish in the 100 free with a time of 55.70.
• South picked up a third-place finish in the 50 back with a time of 27.47 and Silva finished third in the 50 breast, touching the wall in 31.50.
• Grad-student Zoe Gavin finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.87, NU’s best finish through six events.
• South, Megan SmithNia Thomas, and Houde-Camirand took home second place in the 200 medley with a time of 1:40.56.
• Smith finished fourth and Kathryn Brady came in fifth place in the 200 breast with times of 2:29.64 and 2:30.04, respectively.
• Maggie Marody clocked in at 5:22.11 in the 500 free, to finish fifth.
• Niagara took third fourth and fifth in the 50 fly, with times of 27.22, 27.27, and 27.71 from Lila Maddux, South and Gavin.
• Houde-Camirand, Thomas, Marody, and South finished the day with a time of 3:41.83 in the 400 free relay, taking third overall.
 
Men’s Recap
• The men started their afternoon against YSU with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay as Kyle Dean, Jacob Lauzonis, James Huff, and Alex Magditch finished with a time of 3:38.90.
• Nathan Dragon finished the 1000 free with a time of 10:11.58, finishing third, followed by freshman Andrew Davis in fourth with a time of 10:31.15.
• Reid Tichy and Jacob Ruffolo took first and second in the 200 free with times of 1:46.56 and 1:47.04, respectively.
• Riley Dafoe won the Purple Eagles’ second event of the afternoon with a 24.14 in the 50 back. Gio Germano finished third in the event with a time of 24.29.
• Niagara’s Sean Finley finished second in the 50 breast with a time of 27.28.
• The Purple and White would pick up their third win of the day in the 200 medley relay as Kevin VuLevi Morgan, Ruffolo and Dragon finished with a time of 1:26.11, nearly two seconds ahead of NU’s B team in the event.
• Vu, picked up his first individual win of the afternoon with a 47.11 performance in the 100 free. He would later go on to win the 50 fly with a time of 23.25.
• Tichy completed the 200 back in 1:59.80 to take home second place.
• Finley, Flannery and Sam Schwabauer recorded second, third and fourth place finishes in the 200 breast.
• Dafoe continued Niagara’s strong afternoon with a time of 4:44.89 in the 500 free. Dragon was close behind with a time of 4:54.25, followed by Rowan Markham at 4:57.34.
• Ruffolo and Finley finished back-to-back in the 200 IM, with marks of 1:58.53 and 1:59.63, respectively.
• Dragon, Tichy, Dafoe, and Ruffolo capped off the Purple Eagles’ afternoon with a time of 3:12.55 in the 400 free relay to take second place.
 
Up Next
• The Purple and White will be back in action with a pair of dual meets next weekend, the first on Friday against Cleveland State, followed by Senior Day on Saturday against Waterloo. Both meets will take place at the Oxy Aquatic Center on the campus of Niagara University.
