BUFFALO – The Buffalo State men’s hockey team opened up the 2023 year with a 5-2 victory over Alvernia University in non-conference action on Friday evening at the Ice Arena.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Joe Glamos (Baldwinsville, NY/New Jersey Titans) netted a pair of goals to lead Buffalo State.
  • Tyler Penree (New Hartford, NY/Vermont Lumberjacks) scored his first collegiate goal, while Lucas Patton (Sechelt, BC/Finlandia University) and Chris Blango (Chadds Ford, PA/Philadelphia Little Flyers) each scored a goal.
  • Connor Bizal (Elk River, MN/Boston Jr. Rangers) and Kerry Kruzel (Cumming, GA/Odgen Mustangs) each tallied two assists.
  • Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) stopped 33 shots in goal to earn his eighth victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Golden Wolves opened the scoring just past the midway point of the opening period, scoring on a rebound after Norrman had made a sprawling save to deny the initial shot.
  • Penree responded with 2:04 left in the period after a great feed from behind the goal from Kruzel.
  • The Bengals took the lead for good early in the second period, as Glamos ripped a wrist shot from in close to the upper right corner of the net.
  • Blango doubled the Buffalo State advantage five minutes later, blasting a shot from the point.
  • Patton netted his first goal of the season with under two minutes left in the period, giving Buffalo State a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.
  • Alvernia got a goal back just before the midway point of the third period, and Norrman needed to come up big to deny a pair of breakaway attempts in the final minutes.
  • Glamos sealed the victory with an empty-net goal after Kruzel stole the puck in the neutral zone.

  • Logan Vande Meerakker and Sawyer Senio each scored for Alvernia.
