Blase A. Nicolia, 90, of Grand Island, NY, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 28, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Middleport, NY he was the son of the late Antonio and Gaetana (Spittileri) Nicolia.

Blase graduated from Royalton Hartland High School and proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1958 and later attended Niagara University earning his Bachelor’s Degree.  On July 26, 1958 he married Amelia T. (Sarkees) Nicolia.  Blase was a longtime local businessman in Western NY.   He enjoyed all sports, especially football.  Above all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Blase is survived by his children, Blase A. (Amy) Nicolia, Jr. and Michael (Vanessa) Nicolia; his daughter-in-law, Judith Nicolia; his grandchildren, Andrea (Matt) Bove, Gregory Nicolia and Anna Nicolia and a great grandchild due in March, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Blase was predeceased by his son, John Nicolia and siblings, Vincenza Ragusa, Vito Ragusa and Vincenzo (late Grace) Nicolia.

There will be no prior visitation.  Blase’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 4 at 10:30 AM at Niagara University Alumni Chapel, 6 Vincentian Drive, Lewiston, NY 14109.  Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.  If desired memorial offerings may be made to Catholic Charities of Buffalo.  Arrangements by M.J.
