Ernest Longo, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on December 21, 2022 at Buffalo General Hospital.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Liborio ‘Leo’ and Clara (Mazzone) Longo.

Ernest served proudly in the United States Army from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1950. In 1957, he married Mary (Chudyk) Longo.  Mrs. Longo predeceased him on October 1, 2016.  Ernie was employed as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department for 38 years, retiring in the early 1990’s.  For the past few years, Ernie volunteered at Our Lady of Peace and at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital.  Ernie enjoyed reading and walking.  More than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to him as Uncle Ernie.  Although he will be remembered for his quiet and kind nature, his sense of humor will also be missed.

Ernest is survived by his children, Karen (Michael) Dwyer and Darren (Kelly) Longo; his grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Dwyer, Kristin (Jason) Kientz, Laura (Nate) Gerey, Patrick (Justin Wrezsinki) Dwyer, Cole Longo, Clay Longo, and Aurora Longo; great grandchildren, Isabella, Theo, Mila, Eliana, Henry, Alice, Charlie, Jane, Addie and Evie; his sister, Leonita (late William) Lawson, as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife of 59 years, he was predeceased by his siblings, Anthony (late Caroline) Longo, Louis Longo, John (late Frances) Longo, James (late Concetta) Longo, and Josephine (late Dominic) Rotella.
