BUFFALO – Christian Smallhorne (Queens Village, NY/The Martin Luther School) from the men’s basketball team and Tashawni Cornfield (Gowanda, NY/Putham) from the women’s basketball team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week for their respective performances.
Smallhorne, a sophomore media production major, had a career day as the men’s basketball team finished their stay at the Juniata College Holiday Tournament against Penn State Mont Alto yesterday. He had a career-high 29 points with three rebounds and two assists. Smallhorne was also 7-9 from the free throw line and named to the All-Tournament team.
The men’s basketball team returns to action on January 4th as they host Case Western Reserve University. Game time is slotted for 2:00 pm.
Cornfield, a sophomore interior design/business major, earns the honor for the second time this season. She had 10 points, 5 rebounds, an assist, a block, and 2 steals in the effort against #18 University of Rochester last Tuesday. On Friday against Hilbert, Cornfield tallied a team-high 18 points with 2 rebounds, an assist, a block, and 4 steals.
The women’s basketball team returns to action on January 6th as they travel to Oswego State for a SUNYAC matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
