BUFFALO Goaltender Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) of the Buffalo State men’s hockey team has been selected to represent his home country of Sweden in the 2023 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, NY.
 
The Winter World University Games is an 11-day international festival and competition that combines high-level sport with educational and cultural events, and is the largest winter multi-sport collegiate athletic event in the world.
 
The men’s Ice Hockey competition features 12 teams split into two pools, with each country competing in a five-game round-robin format at Clarkson’s Cheel Arena and SUNY Canton’s Roos House arenas. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals in Lake Placid on January 21, with the championship game to be played on January 22.
 
Sweden’s tournament schedule will include the following fixtures:
 
January 12 Sweden vs. Czech Republic 9:30 AM EST Roos House
January 13 Canada vs. Sweden 1:00 PM EST Roos House
January 16 Ukraine vs. Sweden 8:00 PM EST Roos House
January 17 Sweden vs. Japan 4:30 PM EST Roos House
January 19 Latvia vs. Sweden 4:30 PM EST Roos House
 
Norrman has starred in goal for Buffalo State this season, leading the Bengals to a 7-6-0 record against one of the most competitive schedules in NCAA Division III. The senior leads the SUNYAC with 473 saves on the season, and has posted a .931 save percentage, a mark that ranks him 25th in the country.
