Dr. Dolores A. Bower, 81, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on December 5, 2022 at her residence.  Born in West Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Ogrodnik.

On August 21, 1965, Dolores married Terry F. Bower at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Coventry, RI.  Mr. Bower predeceased her on February 26, 2008. Dolores received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Rhode Island and her master’s degree in nursing from Boston University, and her doctoral degree in higher education from Kent State University.  

Dr. Bower dedicated her life to nursing education, working at the Boston College School of Nursing, as assistant dean of the University of Akron College of Nursing, and most recently, as the dean of Niagara University College of Nursing from 1996 until her retirement 2003. She was also a long-time member of the Niagara University Alumni Chapel community and choir.    

Dr. Bower also served as president of the Western New York Catholic Nurses Association and as a member of the board of directors of Niagara Hospice. She had been designated a distinguished lecturer by the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.  In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed making dolls, cooking and arts and crafts.

Dolores is survived by her children, Dr. Charles Bower and Wendy Bower; her grandson, Daniel Meeks; her brother, Robert (Carol) Ogrodnik, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  In addition to her husband of 42 years, she was predeceased by her sister, Jeannie (late Marty) Hartigan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 10 from 10:30 – 11 AM at Niagara University Alumni Chapel, 6 Vincentian Dr, Lewiston, NY 14109 where Dolores’ Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM, with a reception to follow.
