Jerry W. Ferguson, 72, of Niagara Falls, NY, died surrounded by his loved ones on May 24, 2020 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY.  Born in Oakland, CA in 1948, he was the son of the late Jack, Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy Retired and Joyce (Bell) Ealy.

He enlisted in the United States Army after high school where he honorably served for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After retiring from the Army, he continued to serve his country and the men and women in uniform. He proudly worked for the Department of Veteran’s Administration as an education counselor for 24 years, working to ensure countless veterans received their service-related benefits.

Upon “retiring” from the VA, he continued advocating for veterans for the next 4 years, taking the position of Assistant Department of New York American Legion Service Officer at the Buffalo Regional Office. During this time, he joined American Legion Post 1142 in Buffalo where he was elected to the role of Post 1142 Vice Commander.

Jerry loved music, sports, asking about the weather, telling you about his current weather, concerts, the Bills, and “his” Dodgers. He would gladly tell you about any of them. And if you asked Jerry at just the right time, under just the right circumstances, he would gladly tell you about the two guys he went to high school with that both ran a 100 m dash in 8.5 seconds.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christy; his three sons, Scott, Todd, and Jon (Jennifer); 4 loving grandchildren, Kiera, Liam, Olivia and Alexander; his step-mother, Barb Ealy, and his sister Joni Gomez and her children.

Due to recent circumstances, there will be no prior visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.  Interment at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations on Jerry’s behalf may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.  Arrangements by M.J.
