On April 1, 2020, SP Machias Troopers arrested John E. Burau, 31, of Hamburg, NY for Forgery 2nd Degree.
Troopers investigating a fraud complaint originally reported in February 2019 at a business on Galen Hill Road in the town of Freedom. The investigation revealed Burau had altered a check that was then cashed for $60.
Burau was arrested and released with an appearance ticket for Freedom Town Court, where he is due to appear in May.
