Canisius head men’s basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon announced Tuesday that Malek Green(Cincinnati, Ohio) has joined the men’s basketball program after starting his collegiate career at Morehead State. As a transfer student, Green will sit out the 2019-20 season per NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining, starting in the 2020-21 campaign.

• Played in 61 games, where he made 35 starts for Morehead State during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season.
• Averaged 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in his career with the Eagles. He scored a career-high 23 points against SIUE March 6, 2019, and pulled down a career-best 13 boards at Austin Peay Jan. 5, 2019.
• Hit on 51.0 percent of his shots from the field in his time at Morehead State, highlighted by a 52.8 percent shooting effort in 2018-19, which ranked ninth-best in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).
• As a senior at Taft High School in Cincinnati, Green averaged 21.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, 4.2 blocks and 2.4 assists per game. A first-team all-conference honoree after his senior campaign, he was credited with 20 double-doubles and shot 63 percent from the floor in his final scholastic season.
Witherspoon on Green: “We are very happy to add Malek Green to our program here at Canisius. He brings with him two years of experience at the Division I level from a very competitive conference in the OVC. He has also experienced the grind of what it takes to be a college basketball player at this level. He knows and understands what it takes to be successful in the classroom, on the court and in the weight room.”
