Lockport resident Roger Sherrie, 67, died August 12th, 2019 at his home, after battling cancer. Roger was born on October 19th, 1951 in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in Wilson, New York but spent most of his adult life living in Lockport. He is survived by his children, Alec Sherrie (Jessica Amal Sherrie), Lydia Sherrie (Jon Ross Wilson), and Emma Sherrie (Corey Kuzma); his brother Lynn Sherrie (Helen Sherrie); his sister Joanne Sherrie Mansfield (Lee Mansfield); his nieces Paula Sherrie Schrader (Brian Schrader) and Tracey Demaris; his great nieces and nephews, Andrea Schrader, Joey Schrader (Kim Schrader), Riley Schrader, Wyatt Schrader, and Layne Sherrie; his beloved dog Pepsi; and many, many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Iola and Norbert Sherrie, his nephew Lon Sherrie, and his former wife, Mollie Shearer Sherrie.

Roger attended Wilson Central High School and graduated in 1969. He then attended Adrian College in Michigan where he received a degree in political science. Though he held many jobs in the public sector, he spent 27 years working as a Regional Director for the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) before retiring in 2014. Roger was also heavily involved in local politics throughout his life. In recent years, he served as a NYS Committeeman for District 144, the NYS Committeeman for the Democratic Rural Committee, and the Lockport City Chair. In addition, he fulfilled various roles within the Niagara County Democratic Committee. In 2015, he achieved a lifelong goal when he ran for Lockport City Mayor.

Roger was an incredibly hard worker who was dedicated to defending the rights of the working class. He was a deep thinker, a skilled writer, a passionate public speaker, and a strong leader in his community. While he was well known for his political prowess, he will best be remembered as a loving and devoted father and friend. He was adored and respected by all those whose lives he touched and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24th at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home located at 242 Genesee Street in Lockport, New York. All are welcome.
