CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced Tuesday that both the Canisius men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs have been honored as part of the organization’s Scholar All-America Teams.

The Canisius men’s team, who posted a combined grade point average of 3.23 in the spring semester, was one of seven MAAC men’s programs honored. The women’s team posted a grade point average of 3.37 last semester, one of the eight MAAC women’s programs on the list.

In all, the CSCAA recognized a record 777 teams representing 480 institutions for their work in the classroom during the 2019 spring semester. The CSCAA Spring Scholar All-America Teams are made up of college and university swimming and diving programs that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the spring semester.

A total of 15 MAAC swimming and diving programs were honored by the CSCAA for their efforts in the classroom during the most recent semester. Canisius is one of six schools in the MAAC to have both its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs honored by the CSCAA.

The Canisius men’s swimming and diving team placed fifth at the 2019 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the program’s seventh-straight finish among the top-five MAAC male swimming and diving programs. The women’s team finished fourth at the 2019 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, which were held in the Flickinger Center pool in downtown Buffalo.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the first organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
