Subversive Theatre unapologetically presents “LAYLA’S ROOM” by Sabrina Mahfouz, directed by Kelly Beuth June 6-15.

Starring emerging actors of Buffalo’s Performing Arts High School  for the 9th installment of our “Subversive Youth Series”, we are honored to present the daringly fresh drama by award-winning Egyptian-British author Sabrina Mahfouz

This intensely personal play takes audiences to the front lines of one embattled teenage girl’s struggle to stand up against sexual assault.  what do you do when your closest friends don’t believe you?  where do you turn when no one will listen?  how do you keep on caring when no one else seems to?

This oh-so-twenty-first century tale takes a hard look at these burning questions and still finds a way to offer hope and empowerment in spite of all the hurdles in the way.  an entrancing elegy of love and anguish, of dismay and resolve, LAYLA’S ROOM speaks out with a beautifully innocent voice when it’s needed most

This production is co-sponsored by Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York.  They will be hosting talkbacks after each performance.

Directed by Kelly M. Beuth* — the director of our Subversive Youth Series — this production is performed exclusively by young, emerging actors of Buffalo’s Performing Arts High School.  it stars Isabella Rodriguez, Melisa Rivas Alvarez, Ariana Ballard, Janay Burnell, Molly/Oliver Lewars, Amy Houck, Rahim Dunston, Atraeu Richardson, and Treasure Johnson.
