Game Recap
The Golden Griffins fell to Colgate by a final score of, 67-53, in a non-conference matchup Wednesday night. Canisius senior Sara Hinriksdottir recorded a team high 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Sophomore Anndea Zeigler had eight points and three assists, while seniors Maria Welch and Zhane Irbytallied seven points each for Canisius. Junior Tiana Pugh added five points off the bench as well as recording two assists in her 23 minutes played. As a team, the Blue and Gold shot 32.1 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the line.
The Raiders had three players record double-digits in the scoring column. Senior Summer King had a game high 15 points, junior Rachel Thompson and Hayley Greer each scored 11 for the Raiders. As a team, Colgate won the battle on the boards, 37-39, attempted 60 shots, making 25 of them to shoot 41.7 percent from the floor. The Raiders shot 31.6 percent from deep on 6-of-19 shooting.
Colgate took the lead with 8:41 on the clock in the first quarter after Rachel Thomspson made a jumper right outside the paint to make it, 4-3. From there, the Raiders never let the Griffs retake the lead as the game was only tied twice. After the Griffs tied it, 7-7, on a senior Amanda Schiefen layup, Colgate took a 5-0 run to make the score, 12-7. At the break, Colgate led, 39-30, boosted by a 11-4 run that spanned four minutes in the second quarter.
In the second half, Colgate went on a 10-3 run, capped by a Greer 3-pointer to put the Raiders up, 55-35. The Raiders would extend their lead to 26 points at, 65-39, after King made a layup in the lane with 5:29 left in regulation. Canisius would close the game on a 10-2 run, with Hinriksdottir accounting for eight of those 10 to make the final score, 67-53.
Head Coach Scott Hemer‘s Postgame Comment
“This group is offensively motivated and when shots are not falling it affects us at the defensive end of the floor. Then it snowballs into stretches of the game where we force 3-point shots that are not in the rhythm of the offense and that gets us in trouble. We show signs of being a good team, but until we demonstrate more consistency, we will have a hard time winning games.”

• Wednesday evening’s game was the 37th meeting between the two schools, Canisius leads, 23-14.
• Senior Zhane Irby‘s seven points are a career-high, surpassing her previous total of six.
• Freshman Jillian Licurgo and Erika Joseph both made the collegiate debut against the Raiders, playing three minutes each.
• Hinriksdottir led the Griffs in scoring for the 30th time in her career.
