BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Mt. Mercy) tallied a career-high 43 saves but it was not enough as Oswego netted a pair of third-period goals to claim a 2-0 victory in NEWHL action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State had multiple scoring chances in the first period but were unable to convert on two power play chances as the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
  • The Lakers were the aggressors early on in the second frame by outshooting the Bengals 7-3 but could not break through.
  • Buffalo State found themselves on another power play opportunity with 10:58 left in the second period and had its best scoring chances with three-straight shots but came up empty as the score remained 0-0 at the second intermission.
  • After the Bengals killed two Oswego power play chances in the opening minutes of the third period, the Lakers outshot Buffalo State 19-9 in the third period and were rewarded with a goal with 12 minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Oswego added a late insurance marker, only two seconds after the Bengals killed a sixth, Laker power play, to claim the shutout for its first NEWHL victory of the season.
  • The Lakers finished with a 45-26 shots advantage for the contest as both teams finished 0 for 6 in power play chances.


FOR THE FOES

  • Philomena Teggart and Katelynn Ferguson each scored for the Lakers.
  • Victoria Rankin, Aislinn McAleer and Bailey Thomas all chipped in assists.
  • Rachael Farmer finished with 26 saves in net for Oswego.
