Niagara swimming & diving welcomes Waterloo this weekend

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the Oxy Aquatic Center on Saturday, Nov. 10 to host Waterloo. Events are set to begin at 11:00 a.m.

Men’s Meet Notes

• The men last competed against Binghamton on Oct. 20, falling to the Bearcats, 172-107.
• The relay team of Andreas Rintel, Gary Rockwood, Dalton Stier and Nicolas Winograd placed third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.46.
• Rockwood finished second in the 1000 free, swimming the event in 10:16.81.
• Nick Rogers finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.06.
• Rintel placed third in the 100 back, finishing in 55.63. He placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:31.07.
• Edgar Melchor took second place in the 100 breast with a time of 59.88. He also placed second in the 200 breast (2:15.04) and the 100 fly (53.49).
• Stier took second in the 200 fly (1:55.13).
• Winograd placed third in the 50 free with a time of 21.76. He placed second in the 100 free with a time of 48.04.
• Noah Barnard finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 180.44.
• Harry Fox placed second in the 200 back (2:02.17).
• Daniel Ronen finished second in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.00.
• The relay team of Rogers, Stier, Winograd and Melchor placed second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:13.91.

• The Purple Eagles and the Warriors last met on Nov. 11, 2017. Niagara defeated Waterloo, 112.5-11.5.

• In their last outing, the Purple Eagles were defeated by Colgate, 146-137.  
• After previously breaking the 200 breast record earlier this season, Hayley Tasselmyer broke another Niagara women’s swimming record in the 100 IM, finishing the event in 1:01.21. Tasselmyer also placed first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.63 and second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:29.79.
• Freshman Avery Sanquist broke the 1000 free record with a time of 10.34.08. Her 500 free split time of 5:14.70 is the sixth-best time in program history. Sanquist also placed first in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.18.
• Hannah Charlton placed first in the 200 fly (2:13.73). She placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 59.98. Charlton placed fourth in the 100 IM with a time of 1:03.54, which is the third-best time in program history.
• Gailyn Graff had a great day on the board against Colgate. She scored 233.40 in the 1-meter dive, good for  the third-best performance in Niagara women’s diving history. Graff scored 230.70 in the 3-meter dive, which is also the third-best score in program history.
• Sarah Webber swam the 100 IM in 1:06.82, good for the sixth-fastest time in program history.
• Yvonne Schere took second place in the 100 free with a time of 55.15.
• The relay team of Isabella DeSimone, Delaney LaBue, Schere and Tasselmyer took first in the 200 free relay (1:40.39).

• In their last meeting against the Warriors on Nov. 11, 2017, the Purple Eagles defeated Waterloo, 122-101.

• The Purple Eagles travel to Akron from Nov. 30- Dec. 2 to take part in the Zippy Invite, hosted by the University of Akron.
