BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canisius senior Siobhan Quinn finished 19th at today’s NCAA Northeast Regional, recording the best finish in school history at the event and becoming the first female Golden Griffin to earn All-Region honors. As a team, the women placed 22nd overall in the 6K event and the men finished 23rd in the 10K, despite snowy race conditions.
 
Quinn finished with a time of 22:20, followed by fellow seniors Carlin Sullivan (23:51), Kayla Stewart (24:02) and freshman Bailey Pierce (24:41). Sophomore Emily Scheck and junior Justyna Wilkinson finished side-by-side at 25:23, before senior Aileen Doyle crossed the line at 25:47 to round out the Blue and Gold’s top-seven runners.
 
For the women, Iona, Marist, Siena and Quinnipiac all finished ahead of Canisius, while Niagara, Fairfield, and cross-town rival Buffalo placed behind the Griffs.
 
Junior Anthony Belfatto collected an 80th place finish with a mark of 34:43 to lead the men. The result marked the best of the juniors’ career at the NCAA Regional.
 
Behind Belfatto was fellow junior Nick Neamtu (35:08) and freshman duo Evan Whittaker (35:35) and Michael Peppy (35:36). Senior Patrick Crowley (35:44), junior Henry Burton (35:52) and senior Paul Henry (39:32) rounded out the Griffs top-seven.
 
On the men’s side, Canisius finished behind MAAC rivals, Marist, Siena and Iona. The Gaels finished second and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisc.,­­­­­­ on Nov 17.

Quinn will wait to see if she earned a trip to Madison as an individual at-large competitor during Saturday’s NCAA Division I selection show on NCAA.com. As for the rest of the Griffs, they will compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships next Saturday, Nov. 17 in the Bronx, N.Y.
