POTSDAM, N.Y. — Natalie Wasielewski scored three goals to propel Potsdam to a 6-1 victory over visiting Buffalo State tonight in the NEWHL season-opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Potsdam jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead with a pair of special teams tallies, scoring first shorthanded and later adding a power-play goal.
  • Emma Ruggiero (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) put the Bengals on the scoreboard with her third goal in as many games just 17 seconds into the second period with an assist from Lila Toczek (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint), but that would be all the offense the Bengals could produce.
  • The Bears added two more goals in the second period and netted another pair in the final frame to complete the scoring.
  • Shots on goal for the game finished even at 25-25.
  • Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Mt. Mercy) made 19 saves in the loss.
  • The Bengals were 0 for 8 on the power play, and Potsdam was 1 for 7.



FOR THE FOES

  • Miranda Kolb, Alexis Clark and Delphine Leonard added goals for the Bears.
  • Alexa Pfeiffer finished with 24 saves for the win.
