BUFFALO, N.Y. — Curry overcame a two-goal deficit and netted a power-play goal with less than five minutes remaining to slip past the host Bengals 3-2 tonight to claim the 2018 Buffalo State Bengals Classic title.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State created the better chances and held a 10-6 edge in shots on goal, but the first period ended in a scoreless draw.
  • Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) put the Bengals on the board just 2:25 into the second when he raced after a puck the ricocheted down the ice off a blocked shot by Jon Colley (Stouffville, ON/Stouffville District) and buried the breakaway on a deke to his backhand.
  • Sophomore Braeden Doust (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville DeWitt) jumped on a turnover in the slot and wired a shot home for his first collegiate goal just 1:35 later to give Buffalo State a 2-0 lead.
  • Curry answered with a power-play goal midway through the period and netted the equalizer just 33 seconds later.
  • The Colonels carried the momentum through most of the third period and netted the game winner on the power play with 4:15 remaining.
  • Curry finished with a 34-25 advantage in shots, including 28-15 over the final two periods.
  • Trevor Micucci (Hamburg, NY/Connections Acad.) finished with 31 saves in his first collegiate start.
  • The two teams combined for 29 penalties.  Curry finished 2 for 6 on the power play.  The Bengals were 0 for 7.

  • Michael Curran, Lionel Mauron and Victor Jansson scored for Curry.
  • Cody Murch finished with 23 saves for the win.
