BUFFALO, N.Y. — A total of 28 members of the Canisius men’s and women’s cross country teams were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team for the 2018 season, the conference office announced Saturday following the conclusion of the championship races. 15 women’s team members and 13 Golden Griffins from the men’s program were recognized by the league for their work in the classroom.
 
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have completed two semesters at their institution and hold a grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
 
Canisius seniors Christian Conner, Aileen Doyle, Hannah Latranga, Mary Manzari, Siobhan Quinn, Katie Simon, Carlin Sullivan and Kari Tutie  were joined by junior teammates Rachel Joachimi and Jackie Lamica.Sophomores Grace Hausladen, Isabella IadiciccoIsabella Jankowski, Emily Scheck, and Tina Wardner were all honored for the first time.
 
From the Canisius men’s team, seniors Alex CambriaPatrick CrowleyAustin OetingerJosh Sopchak andBrandon Williams were five of the leagues 96 male student-athletes honored to the league’s all-academic team. Juniors Anthony BelfattoHenry BurtonDonny GlavinNick Neamtu and Nick Spinosa were joined by sophomores Turner DirriglConnor Doran, and Jordan Obrachta who received acknowledgement from the conference for the first time in their careers.
 
The Blue and Gold men finished seventh and the women fifth at the 2018 MAAC Cross Country Championships. The teams will be back in action Nov. 9 at the NCAA Northeast Regional in Buffalo, N.Y.
