ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Buffalo State lost a pair of straight-set matches to St. John Fisher and NYU as its season came to a close today at the New York Region Challenge at RIT.
MATCH 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: St. John Fisher def. Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. John Fisher jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set and cruised the early advantage. Buffalo State led 9-7 in the second set, but the Cardinal hung around and then used an 11-3 run to close the set and take the 2-0 lead. Fisher pulled away early for a 13-6 lead in the final set and cruised to the sweep.
- St. John Fisher finished with 49 kills and 12 aces, compared to just 22 and three by the Bengals.
- Brooke Latour (Lakewood/Southwestern) and Jordan McKenna (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) tallied five kills apiece for the Bengals.
- Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) had 12 assists.

- Alea Steigerwald finished with 22 kills and two aces to lead St. John Fisher.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- NYU never trailed in the first two sets, racing to back-to-back 25-12 wins. The Bengals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third set, but the Violets regrouped and cruised to the 25-11 win.
- NYU posted 40 kills and 12 aces. Buffalo State tallied just 16 kills and did not have an ace.
- Bryanna Fisher (Brooklyn/Midwood) had four kills to lead Buffalo State’s attack, and senior Victoria Rigler (Amherst/Sweet Home) registered 10 digs in her final collegiate match.
FOR THE FOES
- Abby Ausmus had five aces and two blocks. Gretchen Kincade and Maddie DeJong had eight kills each.
