BUFFALO, N.Y. — University at Buffalo junior swimmer Katelyn Burns collected her first-career MAC Swimmer of the Week honors this week after a dominant performance which saw her claim victory in five different events in the pool Saturday during Buffalo’s annual dual meet exhibition against Cornell.
Burns started her meet out collecting a victory in the first event of the day, the 200 yard freestyle relay, with the relay team including sophomore Jillian Lawton, senior Andrea Ernst and senior Catherine Schultheis as they swam to victory in a time of 1:33.77. Burns then dominated in a series of freestyle events as she claimed victory in the 50 yard (23.54), 100 yard (50.92) and 200 yard (1:52.58) freestyle events.
To cap off her impressive showing Saturday afternoon, Burns swam to victory with her team in the 400 yard freestyle relay event, clocking in a solid time of 3:33.26.
Burns and the rest of the Bulls return to the pool this Friday as they are set to square off against a strong MAC foe in Akron. The meet gets underway at 5:00 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN 3.
