UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS


BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo volleyball team had their three-match winning streak snapped on Saturday night with a 3-1 loss to Central Michigan at Alumni Arena. The loss dropped the Bulls to 13-9 on the year and 5-5 in league play. 
The Chippewas took the contest 25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-14 as Central Michigan hit .339 on the night, opposed to just .200 for the Bulls. UB was undone by its errors as the Bulls had 28 hitting errors on the night, to go along with seven service errors and nine receiving errors.  In fact, UB took 30 more swings than Central Michigan and finished the night with seven more kills.
It was another strong night for junior right side Polina Prokudina, who had 11 kills and recorded just three errors as she hit .471.  Fellow junior Rachel Sanks finished the night with nine kills and just two errors, while middle blocker Kristina Nieves had six kills and no errors, hitting .500.
Sophomore Andrea Mitrovic led the Bulls with 19 kills, but she struggled on the evening as she had 16 hitting errors on 60 swings. Junior Scout McLerran finished the night with three kills and a match-high 47 assists.
The Bulls had five aces on the night, led by three from freshman Paige Beck.  Defensively, UB had 47 digs as a team, led by 12 from junior Hannah Watson.  Senior Larra Bickelhaupt added 10 and McLerran had eight.  The Bulls also had 5.0 total blocks, led by four from Nieves.
Buffalo will return to the road next weekend with a tough trip to Miami (OH) and Bowling Green, the top two teams in the MAC East.  First up will be the Miami (OH) RedHawks on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
