LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Sophomore Shauna Lee scored in the 88th minute to pace Canisius women’s soccer in a 2-2 draw with Rider Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville, N.J.

With the tie, the Golden Griffins moved to 4-7-5 on the year and 1-4-4 in MAAC play. The Broncs improved to 8-5-3 and 4-3-2 with the result.

Rider’s Sarah Gellert put the Broncs on the board first in the seventh minute. Valeria Pascuet hit a corner kick into the box, which was headed down by Sam Picinich and found the foot of Gellert, who placed it into the net.

Sophomore Magdalen Canitia brought the Griffs level in the 22nd minute off of a give-and-go throw in from freshman Hope Balling. Canitia’s goal stands as the first of her career, while the assist for Balling marks her fourth of the 2018 season.

The game would remain knotted at 1-1 until the 73rd minute, when Rider’s Emily Curteis received a pass from Kourtney Cunningham and drilled the ball into the left side of the net past Canisius junior goalkeeper Alana Rossito put the Broncs up, 2-1.

In the 88th minute, Lee took control of a loose ball in the box and beat Rider keeper Carmen Carbonell one-on-one to the right-side of the net. Lee’s unassisted goal is her second of the season and third of her career.

Head Coach Todd Clark‘s Postgame Comments
“We played super hard today. When you look at the last three conference match-ups, we tied three teams who earned spots in the postseason. Overall, the team left everything on the field today. I think other teams can see that we are growing as the season goes on especially with the amount of effort we have put in these last few games.”
