NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Niagara University men’s basketball head coach Chris Casey has named seniors Marvin ProchetDominic RobbChris Barton and Greg King as the captains for the 2018-19 season.

Marvin Prochet is a returning captain for our team and was named captain for the 2018-19 season immediately at the conclusion of last season,” Casey said. “His leadership was vital to our success last season and it will be vital to our success this season.  Our other three seniors – Greg KingDominic Robb and Chris Barton – have aggressively assumed leadership roles and will join Marvin as captains for this season. I look forward to watching these four seniors lead us!”

Prochet, a native of Brooklyn, has developed into one of the best two-way players in the MAAC. Prochet, who served as a captain in the previous two seasons, set career-highs in points (10.3 ppg), rebounds (7.9  rpg), field goal percentage (.416), 3-pointers made (51), 3-point field goal percentage (.381), assists (60) and steals (27) last season.  He led the MAAC in rebounds per game (7.9) and in double-doubles (9).

Robb has been a defensive stalwart for the Purple Eagles, including setting the program’s single-season block record (74) as a sophomore during the 2016-17 season. Last season, the Pittsburgh native was second in the MAAC in blocks (48) and blocks per game (1.4). He enters this season in fifth place on Niagara’s career blocks list.

Barton has seen significant action, playing in 91 games including 43 starts in the last three seasons. The Pontiac, Mich. native has averaged 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in his career. He shot a career-best 80 percent from the free-throw line during the 2017-18 season.    

King, a native of Atlanta, averaged 4.6 points and 5.6 rebounds playing in 33 games last season in his first campaign as a Purple Eagle. He recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds versus Buffalo.

The Purple Eagles return nine letter winners from last season’s team that went 19-14, including earning a No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament with a 12-6 conference record, and receiving a bid to play in the CIT.

The Purple Eagles will host Mercyhurst in an exhibition on Monday, November 5 at 7 p.m. before officially opening the season hosting Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure on Monday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
