BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius golf team closed out the fall portion of the 2018-19 season on Tuesday by placing seventh at the Titans Motown Collegiate, hosted by Detroit Mercy at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland, Mich. The Golden Griffins posted a team score of 305 in the final round and ended the 54-hole tournament with a team score of 921.
 
Senior John Dantonio led the way for the Blue and Gold on Tuesday, as he carded a career-low score of 70, which was two-under par. Dantonio set a career-low for a 54-hole event with his tournament score of 222, which placed him in a tie for eighth, his sixth career top-10 finish in 32 career college tournaments.
 
GRIFFS’ LINEUP
Dantonio’s 70 came after the Lancaster, N.Y., native posted three birdies in his final six holes on the day. Sophomore Matt Genaway shot 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for 20th in the field with his score of 230, and sophomore Jaret Chipman carded a 76 in his final round of the fall campaign to place 25th overall.
 
TEAM LEADERBOARD
Canisius’ team score of 921 was three shots back of sixth-place Valparaiso and 10 shots behind fifth-place Detroit Mercy. Grand Valley State won the team championship title with a three-round score of 879, which was 10 strokes better than second-place Loyola-Chicago.
 
INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
Ferris State’s Andrew Hammett won individual medalist honors after he finished the tournament six-under par, with a three-round score of 210. Hammett, who started the day six-under thanks to a 66 in round two, shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday.

The Griffs will return to the course in the spring of 2019. Canisius’ spring schedule will be announced in the near future.
