BUFFALO, N.Y. — Three Niagara men’s cross country runners – Danny Leskowicz, Joe Tricarico and Justin Sagasta – helped the Purple Eagles have a day to remember by breaking personal records at Saturday’s Canisius Alumni Classic.

Meet Marks

  • Tricarico (27:38) was the team’s top finisher yet again, completing the 8k in record time. It was the third race Tricarico came across first for Niagara.
  • Dual-athletes Leskowicz (29:41) and Sagasta (30:43) continued to impress in their first fall on the course. Meanwhile, Kevin Verdejo (31:04) raced and completed his first career 8k.

Coach’s Corner

  • Head coach Christine Kloiber: “We were pretty psyched that Joe pieced his race together in a nicely, even-paced execution to finally get a PR this year. We also know that he has more in the tank and hope that he might be able to crack the 27-minute barrier at MAACs as he’s fit enough to do so. We’re also really pleased with how well our swimming-additions have done. A congrats to Kevin for completing his first 8k, and to Danny and Justin as they both dropped a couple of minutes off of their times from two weeks ago. We’re not into taper yet, so if we can get another 60 seconds off their times, that would be fantastic.”

Up Next

  • Niagara will have a quick turnaround, as they’ll be in Ithaca, N.Y. on Friday, Oct. 19 for the John Reif Memorial.
