BUFFALO, N.Y. – Three Niagara men’s cross country runners – Danny Leskowicz, Joe Tricarico and Justin Sagasta – helped the Purple Eagles have a day to remember by breaking personal records at Saturday’s Canisius Alumni Classic.

Meet Marks

  • Klinowski’s 5k mark topped Nicole Mehlman’s 2010 result from the Canisius Alumni Classic by eight seconds to vault herself into the top five all-time finishes for a Niagara runner.
  • Julia Freemire and Annina Marullo finished with identical 19:43 finishes. For Freemire, it was her best team result of the year. It was Marullo’s fourth time finishing in the top two this fall. For both, it was their fastest times ever running in the purple and white.
  • Julianne Gerritsen (21:11), Casey Roman (21:17), Grace Kibler (21:26) and Emma Bagnato (22:14) also ran Niagara-bests at the meet.

Coach’s Corner

  • Head coach Christine Kloiber: “Our first congratulations has to go out to Nora as she set a massive new personal best and now ranks third on the all-time 5k performance list. We knew she would be an 18-minute runner, but she surprised everyone in dropping this quickly so soon. It was a great inspiration to watch, and then to see Annina and Julia next in line setting Niagara personal bests, everyone knew it was going to be a solid day all-around. For Jules, that race has been in there for some time, and it was thrilling for her to be able to actualize it.”

Up Next

  • Niagara will have a quick turnaround, as they’ll be in Ithaca, N.Y. on Friday, Oct. 19 for the John Reif Memorial.
