CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — With the fall season winding down, the Canisius rowing team returned to familiar waters Sunday as it sent five boats to the Head of the Niagara.
Held at the historic West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, N.Y., the regatta saw the trio of varsity four boats for the Golden Griffins sweep the top three spots in the Women’s Collegiate 4+ session. The two varsity eight crews raced against each other in the Women’s Collegiate 8+ session.
The varsity fours started things off for the Blue and Gold in the morning as the Canisius “A” boat placed first with a time of 13:33.26. The Canisius “B” crew followed them with a 14:12.88 time, while the Canisius “C” boat was just over three seconds behind, clocking in at 14:16.26. The Griffs beat out competitors from Buffalo State, University at Buffalo, Cazenovia College, D’Youville and Oswego State.
In the afternoon, the Griffs’ varsity eight boats dueled, as the “A” boat edged out the “B” crew. The “A” boat clocked in with a time of 11:25.19 and the “B” boat posted a 12:28.72 time.

“Our staff is really pleased that the girls were able to execute the race plan and apply what they’ve been working on in practice. We know what we have to work on in preparation for the Head of the Schuylkill in a couple weeks and we look forward to making those strides in the practices ahead.”
Up Next
Canisius will wrap up its fall season Oct. 27 when it heads to Philadelphia, Pa. to race in the Head of the Schuylkill.
