NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — After falling into an early 2-0 hole, the Niagara University men’s hockey team rebounded for an impressive 4-3 victory over AIC in overtime.

Newcomer Ludwig Stenlund played the hero for the Purple Eagles, netting his second goal of the night to seal the win.

Game Recap

  • After two goals from the Yellow Jackets in the opening 14 minutes, Niagara answered the second less than a minute later. Eric Cooleyfound Jared Brandt who calmly put the puck on goal to bring Niagara within one.
  • On Brandt’s scoring play, AIC was assessed a penalty and 59 seconds into the power play, Stenlund ripped a deep one-timer from Noah Delmas to level the score at 2-2. Brandt also registered an assist on the goal.
  • Following an AIC goal just 24 seconds into the second period, Delmas put the score level again with some help from Chris Harpur and Dylan Mills.
  • AIC nearly retook the lead with a three-on-one opportunity late in regulation, but goaltender Brian Wilson turned away the chance to get Niagara to the overtime period.
  • Stenlund’s game-winner came following some extensive Niagara time in the Yellow Jackets’ zone. Great puckwork from Justin Kendall to Mills allowed Stenlund to find an open space and drill his shot into the back of the net.
