CORTLAND, N.Y. — Buffalo State drove the ball into Cortland territory seven times, but was only able to produce seven points and host Cortland pulled away for a 41-7 victory today in an Empire 8 contest.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Kevin Torrillo (Amherst/Sweet Home) finished 22 of 39 for 190 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
- Jordan Evert (Amherst/Sweet Home) was the leading receiver with eight catches for 68 yards including a touchdown.
- Martin Bailey (Buffalo/Kenmore West) carried the ball 29 times for 80 yards.
- Elloheim Tucker (Bronx/Cardinal Spellman) led the Bengals defense with eight tackles, including one for loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cortland finished with 514 total yards, including 355 through the air, while the Bengals had 307 total yards despite running 25 more offensive plays than the Red Dragons.
- Buffalo State drove into Cortland territory on each of its first two possessions, but had a turnover on downs and a short field goal try blocked allowing Cortland to jump out to an early 7-0 lead on a 38-yard catch and run by Alex Wasserman.
- A Jayson Taylor (Buffalo/Kenmore West) interception set up another Bengal possession that stalled with a turnover on downs in the red zone.
- Cortland responded with a 12-play, 88-yard drive that ended with a Brett Segala 1-yard quarterback keeper to give the Red Dragons a 14-0 lead they would take into halftime.
- Cortland extended the lead to 27-0 with a pair of third quarter touchdowns on a 24-yard touchdown catch by Jake Smith and a 1-yard run by Johnnie Akins.
- The Bengals drove into Cortland territory again late in the third quarter, but came away empty yet again after a D’Monte Woody interception.
- The Red Dragons added to the lead early in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard scoring run by Roy Harvey.
- Buffalo State finally responded with a 13-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a 7-yard touchdown catch by Evert from Torrillo with 7:05 remaining.
- The Red Dragons completed the scoring with a late 25-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Heuer to Chris Montiero.
FOR THE FOES
- Segala finished 16 of 28 for 330 yards with a pair of touchdowns and a pick.
- Wasserman had six catches for 134 yards and a score.
- Akins piled up 104 yards on 15 carries.
- Denarii Beard led the Cortland defense with 11 tackles.
