Results
The Canisius cross country programs finished second on both the men’s and women’s side of the Canisius Alumni Classic at Delaware Park Saturday afternoon. Senior Siobhan Quinn and junior Nick Neamtu were the Golden Griffins top finishers in their respective races.
Quinn took home the individual title with a time of 17:40, followed by teammate, senior Carlin Sullivan who crossed the line second with a time of 18:11. Senior Kayla Stewart placed 12th with a time of 19:19 and freshmanCarly Benson broke into the top-15 with a mark of 19:27, four tenths of a second ahead of the next runner.
Freshman Bailey Pierce recorded her best finish of the season with a time of 19:37 in 18th place. Junior Justyna Wilkinson and sophomore Emily Scheck also recorded top-25 finishes with times of 19:45 and 19:45.6, respectively.
The University at Buffalo took home the women’s team title with 42 points, followed by the Griffs in second with 48 and Detroit Mercy placed third with 105. SUNY Geneseo recieved the non-Division I team title as they placed fourth overall with 120 points. Youngstown St. finished fifth with 145, Niagara placed sixth with 154 total points and Seton Hill recorded 171 points for seventh place. Buffalo State, Robert Morris and Daemen rounded out the field with 206, 210 and 258 points each.
For the men, Neamtu (25:45) continued his stellar campaign with a third-place finish behind Detroit Mercy teammates Ben Kendall (24:40) and James McCann (24:58) who took first and second place overall. JuniorAnthony Belfatto placed seventh with a time of 25:58.
Junior Henry Burton ran his fastest 8K of the year with a time of 26:16, placing 12th overall, he was followed by freshman Michael Peppy who recorded a mark of 26:16. Seniors Patrick Crowley (26:25) and Paul Henry(26:34), as well as freshman Richard Moore (27:03) rounded out the Blue and Gold top-seven runners.
The Canisius Alumni team edged out the current Griffs, 47 points to 49 to take home the team title. Buffalo finished third with 62 points followed by Detroit Mercy in fourth with 66 points. Rounding out the top-five was SUNY Geneseo with 126 points. In sixth place, Daemen with 215 points, Seton Hill earned seventh with 218 points and Buffalo State finished eighth with 223 points. UB Club placed ninth with 230 points, followed by Niagara with 284 points to round out the field.
