CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Mike Donner
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Freshman Mike Donner shot a career-low 73 and sophomore Matt Genaway also carded a 73 on Monday as the Canisius golf team took part in the first round of the Bucknell Invitational at the Bucknell Golf Course in Lewisburg, Pa. As a team, the Golden Griffins recorded a team score of 299, which places the team in 13th place in the 18-team field.

Both Donner and Genaway are tied for 35th in the field after the first 18 holes in the 36-hole tournament. Genaway’s 73 on Monday ties his season-low round for the fall campaign, as he also shot a 73 in the second round of the Little Three Championship back on Sept. 11.

GRIFFS’ LINEUP
Donner’s three-over par score of 73 on Monday came after the freshman posted a pair of birdies on the front-nine, making the turn at just one-over for the round. Genaway had three birdies on the day in his round, with two of those birdies coming at the par-5 ninth hole and par-5 15th hole. Junior Jaret Chipman is tied for 60th in the field after he shot a six-over par score of 76 and senior John Dantonio shot 77 on Monday, which places him in a tie for 73rd.

Canisius’ team score of 299 is 19 strokes back of first-round leader Temple, after the Owls posted a team score of 280, which stands at even-par in the team event. Wayne State (283), host Bucknell (284), Monmouth (205) and Fairleigh Dickinson (286) round out to top-five teams in the field.
