BUFFALO, N.Y. —  Brockport and Geneseo dealt Buffalo State a pair of straight-set defeats to finish off the second day of SUNYAC play on Saturday afternoon.
 
MATCH #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  Brockport def. Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-20)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State and Brockport traded points in the opening minutes of the first set until a 6-0 by the Golden Eagles gave them their biggest lead 17-12. The Bengals used a pair of Brockport service errors to remain close, but ultimately fell 25-19 in the first frame.
  • The Bengals survived an early run in the second set and used a kill from Bryanna Fisher(Brooklyn/Midwood) and an ace from Kirstie Hall (Lakeview/Frontier) to cut the lead to 17-14.
  • Brockport closed the set on a 8-2 run to claim the second frame, 25-16.
  • Buffalo State fell behind early in the third set but used back-to-back kills from Maria Gelyon (West Seneca/Immaculata) and Eimile O’Brien (Marietta/Marcellus) to cut the lead to 20-19. The Golden Eagles again responded with a late run as they scored five of the last six points to close out the match.
  • O’Brien led the Bengals offense with seven kills and six digs.
  • Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) chipped in 19 assists.

 
FOR THE FOES

  • Laiken Fox and Meaghan Mastro led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills and 10 kills respectively.
  • Kerri McHale added 33 assists.

 
MATCH #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Geneseo def. Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-11)
LOCATION: Sports Arena – Buffalo, N.Y.
RECORDS: Geneseo (14-6, 6-0 SUNYAC), Buffalo State (3-17, 0-6 SUNYAC)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State found themselves on the wrong end of a 15-4 run as Geneseo claimed the first set 25-13.
  • Both teams traded points in the second set until a trio of attack errors by the Knights gave the Bengals a 19-18 lead. Geneseo regrouped and scored the next two points to retake a 21-20 lead.
  • Another attack error by the Knights tied the score until the Knights scored the next four points to claim the second frame, 25-21.
  • Geneseo finished off the straight-sets sweep with a win in the third set, 25-11.
  • Brittney Valentine (Marietta/Marcellus) finished with 12 digs for the Bengals.

 
FOR THE FOES

  • Grace Cergol led the Knights’ offense with 15 kills and added 14 digs.
  • Emily Ast chipped in 27 assists.
