NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Purple Eagles men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams head to Fredonia for a dual meet on October 5. The meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.

Men’s Meet Preview
  • This is the first meet of the season for the men’s swimming and diving team.
  • The Purple Eagles return 17 letterwinners from last year’s squad and welcome three newcomers (Benjamin EspositoGary RockwoodDalton Stier).
  • Niagara finished ninth at last season’s MAAC Championships and broke one school record; Nicolas Winograd swam the 100 breast in a program-best time of 56.90.
  • The Purple Eagles were tabbed to finish ninth in the MAAC’s preseason coaches’ poll.
Women’s Meet Preview
  • The women’s swimming and diving team opened its season against Vermont on Sept. 30, falling to the Catamounts, 172-124.
  • Hayley Tasselmyer won both her individual events. She won the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.87 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:31.43.
  • The relay team of Tasselmyer, Kristen SuarezHannah Charlton and Yvonne Schere won the 200 medley relay, swimming the event in 1:51.67.
  • The relay team of Tasselmyer, Suarez, Schere and Isabella DeSimone won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.15.
  • Charlton placed first in the 100 fly (1:00.34) and second in the 200 fly (2:16.08).
  • Avery Sanquist won the 1000 free (10:45.15) and placed second in the 500 free (5:19.46).

Last Meeting With Fredonia
  • The Purple Eagles and the Blue Devils last met on October 20, 2017. The men defeated the Blue Devils, 120-100, and the women picked up a 121-70 win.

Up Next

  • The Purple Eagles head to Binghamton on Saturday, Oct. 20. The men will swim against the Bearcats and the women will face bot Binghamton and Siena. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m.
