Rowing at the 2018 MAAC Championships
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius rowing team returned to the water Saturday, taking part in the Mercyhurst Invitational. The regatta saw the three varsity four boats for the Golden Griffins sweep the top spots in the women’s V4 session, while the varsity eight finished placed second in the women’s V8 session.

Each session featured a five-kilometer head race, followed by a 500-meter sprint race. The 500-meter sprint race was multiplied by five, to give a weighted score, and the times from the two portions were added together for a final time.

The Griffs then completed the 500-meter part of the race with a time of 01:34.82 (07:54.10 weighted). These scores gave the varsity eight a final time of 27:48.64, bested by the top boats from Mercyhurst and RIT. Head Coach Kerri Brace‘s Postrace Comments
“Today was a great day to test our speed against some really good crews. We’ve been working as a program to strengthen our technique at lower ratings and the girls executed the plan the way we wanted them to. Our varsity fours really impressed me today. Eight of them were racing their second race of the day, and to come out 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall made for an exciting finish to our day. We look forward to building on today’s results in the coming weeks as we prepare for the Head of the Niagara.”
