POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Niagara women’s volleyball team fell to Marist in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.
Match Summary
First Set
- The Purple Eagles opened scoring in the first set, but the Red Foxes quickly went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-1 lead over NU.
- Marist was ahead, 9-3, but the Purple Eagles battled back, going on a 4-0 run to trail by only two points, 9-7.
- Late in the set, with Marist leading 20-14, the Purple Eagles went on a 3-0 run, including kills from Jada Carrol and Alex Paris, coming within three points of the lead, 20-17. Marist, however, held onto the lead and took the first set, 25-21.
Second Set
- Kills from Paris and Caroline Leitch kicked off a 4-0 scoring streak for the Purple Eagles in the second set and Niagara led the Red Foxes, 7-4. Marist answered with its own 4-0 run to take the lead, 8-7.
- The Purple Eagles and the Red Foxes went back and forth, before Marist began to pull away, going on another 4-0 run to take a 23-16 lead over Niagara. Marist maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, winning the second set 25-21 to take a 2-0 match lead.
Third Set
- Niagara once again opened scoring in the third set, but the Red Foxes went on a run to take a 4-1 lead. Niagara quickly battled back; two kills from Mary Redl and one from Paris helped the Purple Eagles to a 5-0 run and a 7-6 lead.
- Marist began to pull away, jumping out ahead of the Purple Eagles, 17-10 and, although the Purple Eagles stayed in it, Marist took the third set, 25-21, to sweep the match.
Eagle’s Eye On…
- Alex Paris led the Purple Eagles with eight kills.
- Jaycie Roberts and Emillie Wright had a team-best 15 digs each. Roberts also added seven kills.
- Jessica Streuer led Niagara in assists with 26.
- Cameron Maris, Leitch and Redl each had three block assists.

- The Purple Eagles open their home slate Sept. 22, hosting the Rider Broncs at 1:00 p.m. NU then hosts the Saint Peter’s Peacocks at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
