BUFFALO, NY – Senior captain Carissima Cutrona continued her dominant play on Friday night as she netted a five-point performance to lift the University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (6-1-0, 0-0-0 MAC) to their sixth straight win as they downed Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure 3-1 in front of the home fans at UB Stadium. Cutrona has notched at least one point in each of the Bulls last six matches.

How It Happened
  • Carissima Cutrona opened up the scoring in the ninth minute of play as she finished off a rebound off the keepers hands after Marcy Barberic took a hard low shot on goal. The goal was Cutrona’s team-leading fourth goal of the season.
  • In the 20th minute, Hannah Callaghan had a great chance on the right side of the keeper as she headed it towards the left corner of the goal but the keeper made a great save.
  • The Bulls were able to take the 2-0 lead in the 21st minute of action as Adrianna VanCuyck fed Carissima Cutrona who put Marcy Barberic in all alone with the keeper and she buried the ball into the left corner of the goal off the left post.
  • The Bonnies brought the game within one goal in the 31st minute as Maddie Mason sent a free kick into the box where Mariah Marrero was able to dig the ball out and beat the keeper to the left corner for the goal.
  • The Bulls had a dangerous scoring chance in the 44th minute as Carley Zoccali ripped a rocket from the top of the 18-yard box that just missed the upper corner of the goal.
  • The Bulls came out of the locker room quick and it paid off in the 50th minute as Carissima Cutrona buried her second of the match into the right corner of the net after a Marcy Barberic feed.
  • Buffalo had two strong chances in the 58th minute as Gianna Yurchak took a shot from distance that was saved by the leaping keeper and a couple seconds later Marcy Barberic broke in after a nice give-and-go play with Cutrona but her chance was stopped by the diving keeper.
  • In the 69th minute, Rebecca Bramble made a great play avoiding some pressure and took a blast from 18-yards out that just missed the upper part of the goal.
  • In the 73rd minute, Mariah Marrero had a sliding shot that Emily Kelly made a great diving stop on to keep the score 3-1 in favor of the Bulls.
  • The Bulls had their final dangerous scoring chance in the 88th minute as Mairead Martin headed down a ball that trickled just wide of the Bonnies goal.
Inside The Numbers
  • With the win, Buffalo has now won six straight games in regulation for the first time since 1999. The longest winning streak in program history is eight straight which the Bulls did during the 2014 campaign in which they won the MAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
  • With the win, the Bulls now own the 16-13-2 all-time series record advantage against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. UB has now won five of the last six meetings with their Big 4 rival from Olean.
  • For the match, Buffalo outshot the Bonnies 22-5 while also holding the dominant 11-3 edge in shots on goal for the game.
  • Senior Carissima Cutrona moved into sixth place on the Bulls all-time scoring list on Friday night as she now has record 67 points in her Buffalo career. Cutrona also sits in seventh place in assists with 17 and eight place in goals with 25 for her career.
  • Cutrona has recorded at least one point in each of the Bulls last six matches including five multi-point efforts. With seven assists on the season, Cutrona ranks sixth all-time for a single season in assists, just four shy of the program record for a single season.
  • Sophomore Marcy Barberic has now recorded four points in back-to-back matches, a career-high in points. She has also set a career-high with 11 points on the season.
  • Marcy Barberic finished off the first game-winning goal of her career in the 21st minute of action. She also finished the match with a game-high five shots, four on goal.
  • Andrea Judasz collected her second career assist on Barberic’s game-winner.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly finished off her night making two saves in her sixth win of the season.
Player of the Match
Following the match, the UB coaching staff selected Carissima Cutrona as the Player of the Match after she finished her night with a season-best two goals, assist and five points.
