FREDONIA, N.Y. — Ali Shawish (Lackawanna/Lackawanna) scored twice in the second half as Buffalo State improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2015, posting a 2-0 victory over Houghton to claim the title in the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State followed the same script as yesterday, controlling the first half, outshooting the Highlanders 9-2, but the game remained scoreless at the intermission.
  • Shawish finally broke through in the 79th minute with an unassisted tally, and then added another unassisted insurance marker just over two minutes later.
  • Buffalo State finished the game with a 14-5 advantage in shot attempts, including 9-1 on goal.
  • Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) needed to make just one save for his second shutout in three games this season.

 
FOR THE FOES

  • Caleb Loew finished with seven saves for Houghton.

 
NOTEWORTHY

  • Buffalo State’s Shawish was named tournament MVP, and Robert Williamson (Fishkill/John Jay), August Finn (High Falls, NY/Rondout Valley) and Saleman Salim (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) joined him on the All-Tournament Team.
