BUFFALO, N.Y. — After his standout performance in the season opener, University at Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Jackson threw a career-high six touchdown passes in just over two quarters of work to lead the Bulls to a 48-10 win over Delaware State. The junior signal-caller was responsible for each of Buffalo’s first six touchdowns. He became the first quarterback in school history to throw five first-half touchdowns. He was pulled after his sixth touchdown pass, on UB’s first drive of the third quarter, put the Bulls ahead 41-3. His line for the game was 17-of-27 for 189 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.
After the Bulls were forced to punt the first time they had the ball, Jackson led the team on touchdown drives on five of their next six possessions. Jackson threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to George Rushing, a 27-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Johnson, a 32-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Osborn, followed by a 1-yard TD pass to Rushing and finished the half with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Osborn.
Jackson finished his day with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Jones on UB’s first possession of the second half, before he was taken out of the game.
It marks the third time in his career he was won the award. Jackson also took home the honor once in 2016 and once in 2017.
Jackson and the Bulls will take their 1-0 record to Temple for a matchup with the Owls on Saturday.
